In early 2005, Bruce Jendrzey contacted Shawn Queeney and Marcus Canales about the upcoming Texas Shark Rodeo held by Big Lou. It was the beginning of the year, and time to form a team for the upcoming year-long land based shark fishing tournament. For info on this tournament, Click Here

We very quickly decided Lone Star Sharkers would be the name of the team.

Shawn decided to invite his brother-in-law Jeff Smith, as well as his friend Calvin Hamilton to join the team. In addition to those already included, Garrett Queeney was added in a 'Junior Position' (under 16yrs old).

None of the members had extensive experience in the sport of tackling toothies from the sand. However, they were all extremely interested, motivated, and excited. Their previous fishing experience inland and elsewhere would serve them well. With their combined knowledge, they managed to string together a number of productive trips and had a respectable finish in the Rodeo.

In the innaugural 2004 Sharkathon Tournament held on PINS, Capt. Bruce put on quite a show. Had he known the correct way to measure the sharks for Sharkathon, he would've won the largest shark division. He measured his Bull Shark at 6'1" with a metal ruler forming a straight line from the nose to the tail, and others measured theirs with a fabric ruler conformed to the shape of the shark. They only had him beat by one inch. For the 'most total inches of shark division', he released the winning shark, a ~3' Bonnethead, due to the fact that he thought it was too small for entry. That bonnethead, combined with the Bull shark, would've secured him easily into 1st place for most total inches of shark. To put it shortly, he had the tournament won, yet ended up with 2nd largest shark, and 3rd place in most total inches of shark. Another notable mention for the 2005 season was a 2nd place trout in the Sharkathon tournament, caught by Marcus. He narrowly missed the shark podium by just a few inches with his 5'9" Blacktip, which would've been an excellent payout! 2006 brought a new year for the rodeo, and a few changes to the team. Garrett turned 16 years old prior to the start of the 2006 Rodeo, thus making him a senior contestant. With only 5 members allowed per rodeo team, this posed a problem with our previous 6 person roster. We decided to bump Garrett up from his junior spot to replace Calvin as our 5th person, and just entered without any junior members.

Throughout our first season in 2005, the members of the L.S.S. team made a few friends on the sand, as well as some friendly competition. The comradery of the Original L.S.S. members sparked the interest in a few people who were interested in joining. With a 5 person max for the rodeo, and the escalated interest in L.S.S., the decision was made to start a second team for the Texas Shark Rodeo. The team would be called nothing other than Lone Star Sharkers II. This team will continue on with the original L.S.S. team for as long as there is interest in being a member.

With the addition of our website and second rodeo team and group of members, we are really looking forward to our future. Our knowledge is growing, our experience is expanding, our expectations are high, our hooks are sharp, and our lines are tight!

Thanks for stopping by!
