Finally got to go check out Bruce's new palace this last weekend. Very impressed. Got down there Friday night and took the grand tour, including the man cave, where many refreshments were had. Wasn't too optimistic about the fishing with the weather report and chilly water temps, but we were determined to give it a shot..
Bruce's new homemade green light produced the first keeper of the trip. First cast with a speck shad rig.

Later that night, i decided to take the yak out to fish the green light around the bay. Not much luck for the first hour or so. Couple of dinks. I decided to make the trek across the bay to the far green light by the sailboat and was rewarded with a 22.5 and a 16 in trout.. That was by far my biggest green light trout.
Crappy pic, sorry.

Got in at 4am and crashed hard. Woke up way to early the next morning with the family and hung around the casa till around noon before we all decided to get the yaks in the water. Weatherman got it wrong for Saturday. Beautiful day, at least in the afternoon. Dropped the family off at the little island to shell hunt and me and Bruce went fishing. Bruce managed several rat reds in the flat before we made the trek to the "spot". On the way, we drift fished with plastics. About halfway there, i set the hook on a good one. I was fishing spinning gear with 10# power braid, so i was taking it easy. She made 3 good line stripping runs before i attempted to net her. Net was too small and the lure got caught, so i grabbed everything and scooped it in the yak, fish included. Got lucky. I had no ruler, but knew she was decent. Ended up being right at 25. I was stoked. We kept going after a couple of pics and make it to the "spot". I picked up some dinks and a 20 incher, while Bruce fished ahead of me. Apparently, he had an encounter with a monster that did the head shake and lure toss. Something about a softball could have fit in it's mouth. Damn!! He did pick up a 22 incher before we headed back.

Weather turned crappy Saturday night and the fishing was about over till sunday. We went out for a short while with Brother B in his boat on Sunday but had no luck. Great trip and some nice fish to boot. Love the new casa and as always, we appreciate the hospitality. Till next time, Smitty
